Portugal’s Vasco Vilaca, the current series leader, is the first name on the men’s start list for the inaugural WTCS Sunderland spectacular this weekend.
The 23-year-old Vilaca has been the model of consistency so far this season, and the young gun will be looking to pick up some valuable points and cement his place at the top of the standings.
Kiwi Hayden Wilde, who beat Vilaca in a sprint finish for the World Super Sprint Championships at WTCS Hamburg a fortnight ago, is the second-ranked athlete in Sunderland. The Olympic Bronze medalist, already the victor in Yokohama and Hamburg in 2023, is chasing his third win on the circuit this season.
Representing Team GB, the trio of Barclay Izzard, Jack Willis and Max Stapley will be relishing the chance to race in front of a home crowd down at Roker Beach on Saturday, as the North East hosts its first top tier short course event.
Here is your full rundown on which men will be in action in the North East of England.
