Singing sensation Tom Grennan was disqualified from London’s spectacular T100 triathlon showdown on Sunday.
The 29-year-old star loved every minute of his latest swim/bike/run experience in the UK capital, but it ended on a sour note when he was “gutted” to get a DSQ for not completing all required laps on the bike route.
Having hot-footed it from the Tramlines festival in Sheffield where he was performing on Saturday night, the Little Bit of Love singer took on his second Olympic distance triathlon (1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run), after his first at Hever Castle last year – which he had finished in 3:09:42.
Everything was going perfectly to plan for Tom with a massively improved personal best time in his sights, until that mistake on the bike leg.
Tom Grennan on triathlon DSQ
He explained: “It was all going to plan. I was on for a 2 hour 45 minute Olympic triathlon but unfortunately just didn’t read the bike route as I should and came in too early. So unfortunately, I got disqualified.
“I still did the run and got the run experience. I’m gutted because I was absolutely flying on the bike and I think that the bike is one of my strongest parts to my game. So, it’s one of those. I’ll learn from it and come back stronger.”
After making his T100 debut here, Grennan says he’d love to run it back, with races in Ibiza, Las Vegas and Dubai coming up later in the year.
“I would love to do that. It was such a good atmosphere in London,” he said.
