Having won the IRONMAN World Championship for the first time last year after four consecutive second place finishes, it is safe to say that Lucy Charles-Barclay knows a thing or two about perseverance.

After ticking off her long-time ambition of winning Kona, it is now victory over the 100km distance that eludes her, with four appearances on the T100 Tour resulting in three podiums, but never a finish on the top step.

Following a second place finish behind India Lee at the first stop of the 2024 Tour at the Miami T100, the Londoner shared on YouTube that she is more determined than ever to finally clinch victory next month at the Singapore T100.

“It’s going to be a stepping-stone”

Whilst some athletes faltered in the heat last time out in Miami, Charles-Barclay managed the conditions well, but knows that the climate in South East Asia will offer further challenges on race day.

“Singapore again is going to be hot and humid. It’s going to be hotter and more humid than Miami was, so again it’s going to be a stepping-stone going into this race.”

Finishing fifth at the PTO Tour Asian Open that was held in Singapore last year, LCB has experience on this course and underlined her intention to improve on her finish from 2023.

“I really enjoyed the race in Singapore last year. I know the course quite well, it’s quite technical on the bike and hopefully I can get a decent result. I’m hungry for a better result than I had in August last year.”

Chasing the marginal gains

After sharing that her calf injury sustained in Kona had kept her sidelined for a large part of her build into Miami, the 30-year-old said that now she is fit and healthy, she has been constantly on the go since arriving back from Florida.

In addition to sponsorship commitments, Charles-Barclay revealed that she had undergone biomechanics testing on the run and made a trip to the wind tunnel for aero testing, as she chases those crucial marginal gains.

“Since the race in Miami it’s felt like I’ve barely sat still. I’ve had two photo shoots, some biomechanics testing and some aero testing, so it’s been really busy!”

On April 13-14, be sure to tune in as the British star takes on a world class field at the T100 Triathlon World Tour in Singapore, where she will be chasing a maiden win over the iconic 100km distance.
