The women’s individual race at Paris 2024 provide an intoxicating spectacle in France early on Wednesday as French favourite Cassandre Beaugrand roared to a brilliant victory on home soil.

The 27-year-old, who trains like men’s champion Alex Yee at Loughborough, produced her trademark finishing kick to repel the challenges of Switzerland’s surprise package Julie Derron and Great Britain’s Beth Potter to claim gold in some style.

Defending champion Flora Duffy meanwhile produced a gallant performance after only returning to competition recently from a long spell out with a serious knee injury. For Beaugrand’s French team-mate Emma Lombardi it was tears meanwhile as she agonisingly missed out on a medal in fourth.

It was a painful day quite literally for several athletes as the race produced a number of spills during a bike leg which hurtled through the streets of Paris on treacherous roads and cobbles after rain had preceded the start of the big event.

Here is a full rundown on what happened to all of the 55 starters who made it such an epic morning at Paris 2024.
